Periodic body odor is normal, but frequent and the stinky body odor makes you feel uneasy and embarrassing. When sweat gland of our body becomes overactive, it often releases strong and unpleasant body odor. However, sweat is a normal sign of a healthy body, but when you sweat, it mixes with bacteria and produces unpleasant odor. Living in unhygienic conditions, deficiency of nutrients in your daily diet, indigestion and constipation, metabolic problems, diabetes or liver disease can also create foul smells in your odor. Many of us use various types of deodorants to keep our smelly odor under control, but excessive use of deodorant sprays in turn creates more rashes and burning sensations. Deodorants are made of harmful chemicals that are not good for your skin.

Here are some natural and effective ways to get rid of body odor at home

  1. Lemon Juice
  • Lemon juice is significant in the treatment of body odor. The citric acid, vitamin-C, and B-complex vitamins present in the lemon helps to maintain the pH level of your skin and kill the bacteria that produces odor.
  • Cut down a fresh lemon and squeeze it in a small bowl. Dip cotton in lemon juice and apply lemon juice on your underarms using cotton, let it dry for a few minutes and then rinse off.
  • If, your skin is too sensitive mix lemon juice in with half cup of water. Repeat this method for a few days and see results.

  1. Baking soda
  • Properties of baking soda help in absorbing the excessive moisture from the skin. Using baking soda can assimilate the sweat and prevent body odor.
  • Baking soda kills the bacteria and act as an organic body deodorant.
  • Create a mixture using one tablespoon of baking soda and water. Apply that mixture on your under arms and let it dry for a couple of minutes and take a cold shower afterwards. Follow this method every alternate day.

  1. Rosemary
  • Rosemary is a herb that holds the properties of chlorophyll and menthol which has the ability to neutralize the pungent body odor.
  • Rosemary overcomes the shortage of zinc, deficiency of which causes body odor to stink. Rosemary also provides a pleasant fragrance to your body.
  • Mix small amount of rosemary powder in your daily bath water or you can also apply some drops of rosemary oil on your under arms to get rid of the odor.


  1. Apple cider vinegar
  • Apple cider vinegar is very influential in fighting bacteria and in ending body odor.
  • Apple cider vinegar is also helpful in maintaining the pH level of your skin.
  • Dip cotton in apple cider vinegar and apply it on your under arms. Wait for a few minutes to let it dry completely and then take a bath with lukewarm water.

  1. Sage herb
  • Sage herb has the two extraordinary properties. One it limits the activity of the sweat glands and it has an antibacterial properties, which do not let bacteria to flourish under your skin.
  • Soak 8 to 10 leaves of sage plants in your daily bath water or you can also apply few a drops of sage oil on your underarm. One can also drink sage herb tea.
