World Cholangiocarcinoma Day is being celebrated today i.e. 14th of February 2018. The theme decided for this year’s World Cholangiocarcinoma Day is ‘Hope for the future’. The main aim of the World Cholangiocarcinoma Day is to raise much needed awareness of cholangiocarcinoma.
Cholangiocarcinoma is a liver cancer that arises within the biliary system. The disease can happen in the small bile ducts inside the liver, the big branches in the centre of the liver or in the main or common bile duct draining out of the liver which carries the bile from the liver to the gall bladder and down to the small intestine.
This poorly understood and under researched disease is increasing in incidence globally – it is believed that collaboration is the way forward and, by supporting research for early detection and innovative treatments, everybody can suggest, share and help to change the future for many people.
World Cholangiocarcinoma Day is an opportunity where all the public can unite and bring awareness to this disease. On this day, everybody should join together once again, working to bring new hope for those diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma.
Everybody should stand together on this day and let the world know that cholangiocarcinoma is a cancer and that cannot be ignored. There should be debates and talks about cholangiocarcinoma which would further result in awareness about cholangiocarcinoma, its causes, symptoms and treatment.
